I. Wire and cable introduction


Wire refers to the construction of simple and fewer cores of power transmission wire.


Cable refers to multiple stranded, complex manufacturing process, or the core number of more power transmission wire.


Wire and cable is not a strict distinction between the two, in layman's terms, as long as the tangible wire can transmit power or signal, can be called wire and cable.


II. Development of wire and cable

The development of wire and cable, mainly related to the development of insulation materials and conductors. Insulation materials from the original bare wire enameled wire rubber wire plastic wire synthetic material line; gradually developed to the current types of cables. Conductor has also been platinum copper and aluminum fiber optic cable and so on.


III. The classification of wire and cable

According to the Japan Electric Wire & Cable Industry Association in 1977 on the classification of wire and cable: 1, bare wire 2, coiled wire 3, communication cables 4, power cables 5, coated wire.


1. Bare wire ---- as the name suggests, does not have insulating materials, the main conductive materials: gold, silver, aluminum, platinum, etc..


2. Coiled wire ---- similar to the current cable telephone handset cable, CE plant car charger cable. 3.


3. communication cable ---- is mainly used in the communication wire and cable, telephone line is obviously the most obvious example.


4. Power cables ---- are generally high voltage transmission cables. 5.


5. Covered wires ---- are generally low voltage transmission wires.


Wires and cables can be broadly categorized into the above five groups. 

However, according to the specific material, shape, structure and use, they can be divided into PU CABLE, PVC CABLE, round wire, flat wire, MOUSE CABLE, alarm wire and so on.


IV. The production of wire and cable and process introduction


Copper refining → copper (wire) → granulation → cable processing → assembly processing

2. copper stretching (wire stretching)


2.1 copper wire classification: 1. bare copper 2. tinned copper


Bare copper is soft, low resistance, good for bending.


Tinned copper is easy to solder, and not easy to oxidize.


2.2 copper stretching is divided into three stages: rough stretch ( 8.0→3.2~2.6 mm), medium stretch (3.2~2.6 mm), medium stretch (3.2~2.6 mm), medium stretch (3.2~2.6 mm)


 (3.2~2.6→1.2~1.0 mm), fine stretch (1.2~1.0→0.08~0.05mm)


3. Granulation: Formulation and color matching.


4. Cable processing: stranding, insulation, assembling (taping, filling, grounding), winding (braiding), sheathing, wrapping

V. Description of specifications related to wire and cable

1. --- denotes UL safety standard.


2. --- denotes AWG (American Wire Gauge) number, refer to Annex I and II for AWG number selection.


3. --- denotes the conductor, which consists of 7 strands of thin copper wire.


4. --- "/" means that the 7 strands of copper wire are twisted together, "×" means that the 7 strands of copper wire are placed straight together. Generally speaking, the conductors of telephone wires are more straight.


5. --- means that the diameter of the copper wire is 0.127mm. 6.


6. --- "A" denotes bare copper wire ("T" denotes tinned wire), "S" denotes stranded fine copper wire.


7. --- "C" (core) indicates the number of cores.


8. --- "E"(earth) denotes the ground wire.


9. --- "A"(al/mylar) denotes aluminum-clad thin mylar tape ("P" denotes paper-clad).


10.--- "B" (braid) denotes braided ("S" (spiral) denotes twisted).
